I believe the cat was being abused by the person I got it from. Guy at work was taking it to the pound, I got upset and took it. It only relates well to my 5 yr old daughter, and runs away from the rest of us. I have tried gently petting it on the head, and it cowers down really bad...My husband wants to find it a new home. It is a beautiful cat, and I hate to give it up. I dont know much about the temperment of this breed though.

They use the words "gentle and affectionate". The fact that it likes your 5 yr old daughter should tell you that. All it probably needs is a loving, gentle and caring home. Your husband doesn't sound like he wants to spend the time necessary, making the cat feel welcome in your home. Are you sure it wouldn't be better off somewhere else, maybe with an older woman who would love it unconditionally?

I think the problem is the cat's past abuse, rather than the breed. Some cats are funny about being petted on the head (that's even more true if they've been hit), try reaching out and letting him or her (what's with the "it"?) sniff your fingers, then give the cat a gentle rub on the cheek and chin. Give the cat time to get used to you, he or she needs reassurance that your home is a safe environment, cats are very sensitive creatures. Also, it's great that your daughter is doing well with the kitty. Let your daughter continue to socialize the cat, he or she will come around with time. Good luck.

You could go to the library or to Barnes and Noble and find a book on the types of cats and read about them. Any cat needs to be taken in and get to know someone and learn to trust them so they can become comfortable and not keep being moved around. You are a kind person and Good Luck with the cat!

They are absolutely beatiful in temperment, obviously she has had a bad experience, give her about a week and she should settle down, just keep on showing her love and she will reward you back later, but for now she has to get over her experience.
They have great little personalities, they are funny and affectionate, just be patient with her.

Hehehe, I'm Russian.

LOL!

Okay well, Russian Cats are known to be

kind of.... calm. Show it no harm, it is probably scared to be in a new home. It probably was abused, or beaten. Don't be loud around the cat, and make it feel at home. =D
