BDD is a preoccupation with an imagined physical defect in appearance or a vastly exaggerated concern about a minimal defect. The preoccupation must cause significant impairment in the individual’s life. The individual thinks about his or her defect for at least an hour per day. It seems to have similarities to Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

I would suggest that you talk to your physician if you feel that you have body dysmorphic disorder. Many people can have mild body image disturbances, but don't meet the criteria for BDD. Your doctor will be able to determine if it really is BDD or another condition that might be confused with BDD. If it is BDD he can refer you to the right type of therapist who deals with this disorder. With the psychotherapist's help you can determine the best treatment for you. There are medications that can help you too.

You need to talk with a mental health professional...if you do have BDD, then there are several things you can do for treatment, including counseling and possibly medications.
