I have a friend who used Pimsleur sp?, and I was amazed at how good his accent was.
I have heard good and bad about the Rosetta Stone software, could you try to get it at the library and experiment with different ones? Each person learns differently, so what works for one may not work for you.
ONe thing that I did was get a copy of the audio bible, and listened to it night and day. At first I didn't understand anything, but after a while, it started to make connections in my brain. There are probably free things you can download now in your target language.

I used Rosetta Stone to try to learn French, but it didn't work for me. Then I actually started to take French classes, and I talked to my teacher about it, and she dislikes it, too. It uses repetition to teach nouns and adjectives, but I didn't learn any verbs using Rosetta Stone. It does teach pronunciation of words, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Not bad... but learning is very slow.
For me, there are enough free resources in Internet.
