I am a widow and my husband was a gun collector. My sons are going to keep most of them, but a co-worker of one son is looking for a hand gun and was interested in the Ruger. I do not remember what we paid for this gun. It is about 8 years old I believe. Can anyone tell me what a fair price woud be?

I am assuming you are talking about a Ruger semi auto 9mm.
that would be the P89 or P90.
www.auctionarms.com has several of these listed for between $300 and $400.

Prices below for the P89, the P90 is a .45 ACP

P89
- 9mm Para. cal., improved variation of the P85 Mark II, 10 (C/B 1994) or 15 (new late 2005) shot mag., ambidextrous safety or decocker (Model P89D), blue finish, 32 oz. New 1992.
Grading ....100% ....98% ....95% ....90% ....80% ....70% ....60%

The most efficient and reliable way to give yourself an idea is to go to a LOCAL gun shop and just look around for Ruger 9mm guns. Just act like a browsing customer ("just looking for right now, thank you"). Gun values are VERY LOCALIZED. Blue books (oh brother) and gun magazine annuals do not state real values. They are "feel good" values for the owner or a basic guidline at the most. Be careful.

These guns are listed at $475 to$575 new. If it is in good condition it should be worth at least $350, although it is sometimes hard to get what a gun is worth. I would start there.
