We have got the shaft for the last time. We used them last year and they messed up our state and was supposed to compensate and did'nt. This year computer trouble and charged us over 500.00 to do them cause the clock was still rolling. We will not use them again. I am going back to doing them at home my self. The best way to do them. Takes a little longer but that is okay. All they can say is sorry. If you have the gold guarantee, it don't work. We tried that when they messed up last year. I would suggest you do them your self. Contact upper management we have done that and this year we are having to do it again. We thought last year was a simple mistake and it would'nt happen again and then it happen this year. It is all crazy. Good Luck.

My husband and I just recently filed our taxes with jackson hewit and will never go back again. This was the first time that we have filed taxes and thought that they would be good. My husbands cousin said he would never go to jackson hewit again. They have some of the rudest tax preparers and ones who answer the phones. They act like they don't know what they are doing. This will be the last time I ever use jackson hewit again. It is taking them to long to call me back about our federal tax return. I've went to the IRS website and the money was deposited on the 2nd of feb. but they haven't received our check yet.

Be careful! Posting inflammatory remarks in a public forum without thoroughly justifying your position can get you in legal trouble.
I've reviewed many returns from the tax prep mills for disgruntled friends and co-workers over the years. In all but a very few cases the return had been accurately prepared and the problem was the perception of the taxpayer or their lack of understanding of tax law. Most of the improperly prepared returns were due to the taxpayer not providing full information or documentation needed to prepare an accurate return -- you can hardly blame the preparer for that!
I'm no fan of the strong-arm tactics used by SOME of the tax prep mills on their refund loans or poorly performing in-house IRA funds but the tax prep work itself is generally done correctly.

I hate using huge corporations to file my taxes, Jackson Hewitt and H&R Block are horrible they let anyone and their mother work for them and most dont even know baisc tax law, all they know is what the computer tells them.
I've been going to a local tax preparer business, they have three people working there and two of them are Enrolled Agents. I've never had any problems with them and they always know the answers to my questions. Also, I get to support the local economy not a corporations pocketbook.

Oh yeah, they screwed me outta $1800 and charged me $300 for it. When I went back and complained the only compensation they offered me was $20 off next years tax service. ha ha ha as if I was going to use them again!
Also they told me I owed no state tax, 3 months later I get a letter from the state saying that I owed them $600 in taxes. What a mess! I switched to H&R Block and have not had a problem since!

I would never pay someone else unless I was in business and there were too many issues.
Just plain workers should always DO THEIR OWN !
The 1040 instruction manual should be read by everyone once in their life, and starting like no later than 21 yr old (but better late than never)
With all the free efiles, that step you through everything AND do all the calculations,
I totally do not understand how they or H&R stay in business.

It is not right to brand the entire company bad because you found a bad tax accountant. My wife is a tax preparer for a competing firm, it is amazing how often people mess themselves up by doing dumb things.
I am not saying that you messed up, but step back from it and look objectively. Was there something that you did that you wish you had not? Learn from the experience and move on.

One year they did my taxes. They claimed my stock options on my taxes when it was already taxed by my company. Most people doing the taxes have no clue what they are suppose to do. I had to re-file my taxes to get money back. Now I use Turbo Tax. It walks you through the process and gives you good reference information.

Not me, but then again I've done my own taxes since I was 16 (25 years later, never been audited).
