Don't know which country you're in and can only answer for the UK but I guess the same is true for many countries...

Take your batteries to the local household waste recycling site where they''ll have special bins for old batteries. If you have a recycling bin then put the batteries in that and the council will collect them.

You can bring them to your local Wal-mart or any other automotive place around. If you are meaning car batteries that is.
