There are many people who have lost loved ones and who would desperately like to be able to talk with them again or receive messages from them. This desire is understandable, but contacting the dead is not permitted by God according to the Bible. The attempt is a sin against God and results in either deception or involvement with demonic entities impersonating the dead.
I urge you, as strongly as I know how, not to dabble or get involved in anything to do with occult practices, including this one. At best, they are deceptive and fraudulent; at worst, they can involve you in matters which are satanic in origin.

"The Bible is very clear that such things are false and will only lead you away from God and His truth. In the Old Testament God commanded, 'Let no one be found among you ... who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord' (Deuteronomy 18:10-12).

"The Bible urges us to turn in faith to Christ and to seek the truth He has given us in the Bible. God's Word alone gives us spiritual truth; any other path will lead us astray. Occult practices will never tell us with finality what is beyond the grave, but because of His resurrection we can know from Christ everything we need to know."

It is critically important for anyone who has been involved in this or any other occult practice to confess it to God as a sin, renounce the practice, and turn to Jesus Christ for His forgiveness, cleansing and protection. Consultation with a Gospel-preaching pastor may be wise. A book such as "The Bondage Breaker" by Neil Anderson has been helpful to many. It would be available through a Christian bookstore.

Some people believe this more than others. The ones who are involved in a pagan religion tend to believe in communication between the living and the dead through ritual. Christians have even felt the prescence of the departed around them at different moments and I am sure that they have talked or prayed to deceased relatives.

Talking to the dead is simple. Communication with the dead is difficult and the hard part about proof is that now a days so much has been shown to be false that no one believes the truth anymore.

They can talk to shades of the dead, but that's actually not good for dead or living.
People see proof in what the spirits know of the live persons sitting there. But a clairvoyant could pick that up from their aura.

The only proof that would matter to you would be to see it happen yourself. Go around and try to have various spiritualists talk to a dead relative. See what they say, you might get your proof or you might not.

Anyone at all can talk to the dead. It's the expectation of receiving answers that is a bit odd.

I think they talk to 'spirits' that pretend to be the person to whom they think they are talking. Since these 'familiar' spirits, saw and heard things that did happen when the deceased was alive, they are empowered to pretend quite effectively.

Mind you . . . I'm speaking of deception . . . why would I want to believe someone that is pretending to BE someone they are NOT?

Only Jesus spoke to others after having been alive in Human form . . . after raising from the dead . . .

plenty proof
i personally have given and recieved many messages from spirit
but i have also studied with the SPR which is the society for psychical research, who make it their job to research claims of such matters
they have done 10 year studies on some mediums ( Gordon Smith being one )
they have also studied things like drop in communicators where the medium would have no prior knowledge of the spirit present , only to find evidence on research of that person
they have also studied cross correspondences
where 3 mediums from different parts of the world are kept without contact , only to tune to spirit each week and give messages that are in correspondance with each other
for those who say there is no proof.... they havent looked for it

for those who say they should go to Randi .... that is like going to a Christian web site to ask about evolution
or going to an atheist web site to ask about creation

No. Nobody has ever come up with proof of this.

But if you can, then James Randi has a million dollars for you -- check it out at the link below.

EDIT: @ Pangel -- The Million Dollar Challenge isn't about what James Randi believes, or indeed about what anybody believes. It's about evidence. Anybody who can provide concrete evidence of anything supernatural, gets the money. It's that simple.

You can go to your local cemetery and talk to the dead. However if you charge someone for it, you are a scam artist.
