As for underground houses I am not too sure. Have you ever heard of an earthship? These homes are eco friendly and use recycled materials. You may want to check out earthsip.org or earthship.com

Look into a magazine known as Mother Earth News. They have an abundance of information concerning alternative buildings and such. There website is very complete and informative.
