Check out the C.I.A. World Factbook: https://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/index.html

It has information on all (I think) the countries in the world and should provide you with a good starting point for research. Most of the information in statistical so you might have to fill it out with cause-and-effect historical details or details about important people.
