If someone used your social security number and filed a return, you would have to file a paper return and mail it in. Once the IRS receives your return, they will notify you and the other person that someone needs to file an amended return. If you are able to be claimed as a dependant on someone else's return,(a parent, guardian etc) then you would be the one to file the amendment taking off your exemption. If someone used your SS# fraudulently then they would have to file the amended return. The IRS may request that proof be submitted to them showing that you were able to claim your own exemption.Just respond to that notice as soon as possible.
