What do you have to do to go about adopting a child? Do you have to make 'x' amount of pounds per month/year? Do you pay to adopt? Do you have to go through a church?

There are many ways. My parents used a lawyer and it was much cheaper than these agencies. There are many steps to follow and it can take months. You will need a home study and social workers will meet with you. It gets discouraging.. but well worth it in the end. A friend adopted from Guatamala, it costs her $30,000.00. I am 33 yrs old.. but my parents paid less than 5000.00 for me. They found a young teenager who was sure that she did not want the child and paid all her medical bills and the lawyer fees. This was a closed adoption as well. I use to laugh the ads in the paper about adoptions.. but it really works. Good luck and I find it an honor that you would consider adopting.

There are many options when it comes to adoption
Agency adoptions
private adoptions (through attorney, church, friend),advertising, etc.

I would recommend and agency first, they will have all of the particulars covered for you, and they will protect all parties interests.

You do pay fees based on your salary, these fees are for the paperwork process, the social workers, the agency's fees,.etc.
I am not sure where you live, but in the states, this is pretty much the process when going through and agency. The wait for domestic adoption of a newborn can be 3 years or more, and sometimes, less. With domestic adoption through an agency, normally the birth mother chooses the adoptive family after reviewing scrapbooks of families and reading a Dear Birth Mother Letter. Hope it helps, do your research, attend seminars on adoption, and "talk about it with people", Adoption can be a bumpy ride, but it's worth the trip!

First of all you have to get in contact with an adoption society which is approved by the local authority in which you live. Phone your local Social Services and ask for the adoptions officer who will be able to give you information. You will be subject to a thorough interview(s) and inspection by the adoption team and any charity which you are put in contact with. It is a long drawn out process and bear in mind that you are not going to be offered a cute little baby to adopt. Much more likely, is that the child will be older and may have some other issues going on, such as disability.

No you don't have to go through a church, there are a lot of adoption agencys out there. Depending on where your going to adopt from, they may have certain icome restrictions, and yes you do have to pay a certain amount to adopt, and i know it isn't cheap at all!

Contact your local social services, and no you dont have to earn lots of money, the only thing you have to pay is the court fee which could be around £ 150.00 and no you dont have to go through the church.
But the whole process is very intrusive so be prepared for that and Good Luck!!!!!
