We have a Corgi mixed (german shepard/golden retrever) dog who is around 6 months old.
He can sit and kinda stay but he has a problem with chewing things out of spite. (If we tell him no or bop his nose he will pick something of that persons and chew it up) Plus we cant get him from whining all the time. He isnt much of a barker but the whining drives us crazy!!!
He's a smart dog but just dosent get it.
He also likes to run off. We cant trust him not to run away. Im 6 months pregnant and cant chase after him.
What do you all think I should do training-wise?

Try spraying bitter apple on it. You can get it from most any pet store. The dog won't like the taste and will remember the next time he goes to chew on it. If that doesn't work, you can rub Tabasco sauce on the object he is chewing on. I know it sounds kinda mean but my vet told me to do it with my puppy, cause he chews on us. I've been told that you can mix Texas Pete with non toxic Elmer's glue and put that on the object that he's chewing. It will easily peel back off. Hope one of these help. Good luck!

For training, I would say to locate a good trainer in your area to take some obedience classes with. Not only will your dog learn things, but you will learn how to properly train your dog, as well as come to understand dog behavior a little better (which is helpful to know when training).

As for the chewing, plan on that happening until the dog is 3 yrs old. Even tho they have lost their puppy teeth, the urge to chew will be present until about 3 yrs as the adult teeth will still be shifting within the jaw line, thus creating that urge to chew. My American Eskimo was a destructive chewer, but by the age of 3, it just stopped. If it continues to be a problem, consider crating/confining your pup when you can't be right there to keep an eye out.

If you can't trust him off the lead then NEVER let him off in public, this is for your safety and other peoples.
6 mths is still very young. I have a golden ret and a doberman, the dobe is 3 and i still dont trust her off the lead unless in my field.
My advise to you is to just search the internet for training tips and advise. I found lots of helpful info on there when i 1st got my dogs.
One thing that i find really does work is when the are being naughty to shout "no" and if they dont stop give them a quick squirt of water....All my dogs hate this and its been good in training them not to bark and jump up....Good luck with the dog and the new baby!

Learning how to train your dog will improve your life and hers, enhance the bond between you, and ensure her safety and it can be a lot of fun. Dogs are usually eager to learn, and the key to success is good communication. Your dog needs to understand how you’d like her to behave and why it’s in her best interest to comply with your wishes. neuter him........ enroll in obedience classes...... you will have time before the baby is born... dogs do not operate from "spite" and they do not understand "bopping"" a mother dog does not discipline that way and the pup does not understand what that is.. he may be whining because of a dog in heat in the neighborhood,,, also,,, GOLDENs and GSD's are high energy .if indeed he has some of those traits,, he needs TREMENDOUS amount of exercising,,,, play fetch with him for an hour a day.. long brisk walks,,,, but definitely obedience school

Crate trainig is good for them make sure you dont punish them for it. Make sure you keep it as their "den".
