I agree with you. I see people throwing their litter everywhere and out of their car windows.....I would like to make them EAT it...even cigarette butts!!!!

I think the general consensus is that fast food outlets are responsible for the litter outside their stores for much the same reason as any private citizen would be responsible for the litter around their home - even if it was thrown out the window by someone passing on the roadway. It's unfortunate, but there will always be people who find it easier to toss something out the window and be on their way than to save it and dispose of it properly.

Each person has a responsibility or course, to not littler
however, some people are slobs, and there are some cases, where wind might blow something away from someone who is unable to chase after it
the social responsibility comes first with the police and courts, to make an example of anyone caught littering, to stop it at the source - make it stiff enough to put fear in those do it, help pay for cleanup, and make them pick up litter as community service
secondly, a proud community will have a service that does some of the cleaning at taxpayer expense
thirdly, volunteer organizations or people might clean sections for their own benefit of having a clean area
last of all, it's in the fast food restaurant'sinterest to help clean up - bags with their name on them are negative advertising

The responsibility should fall on both the outlet...much of the packaging is superfluous, and the customer as when finished they should ensure that the waste goes into a bin. The outlets need to take responsibility to see that the bins are accessible and useable, ie not overflowing. They should do this anyway under Health and Safety, as overflowing bins attract rats, and rats spell closure for the fast food places!!

Absolutely ...there are laws in place for littering. Seems to be a "waste" of a law tho because people ignore the warning signs that are paid for with tax payers money. If you catch someone doing it say something. They may or may not pick it up. Even if someone spouts off to you they may never do it again which means they are on the road to recovery ;)

I think individuals should be responsible for their own litter, however the authorities need to find someone to pay the wages of the cleaners so it will be the shop owners. I manage a betting shop and we have a few under 18's sneak into the shop without us knowing, grab betting slips and throw them into the street and yes we get the fine....

Asking the average Brit to be responsible for anything is like asking Steven Hawking for advice on marathon running.
Large companies like the fast food people and the supermarkets shoud take some responsibilitiy if they are to have such a large influence over the local community.
You wouldn't seriously shed any tears for them would you?

I agree, the fast food places should provide plenty of bins but the person who bought the food has also bought the container and it's their responsibility to dispose of it properly.

im not entirely sure but i think if the litter is flung down in their grounds then they become responsible but if its away down the street some place and the cops see a dude drop it, then he can be done .
