I'm taking Intermediate Spanish and I can pretty much understand a lot of written Spanish, but I have a hard time understanding the oral language because everything is slurred together. My boyfriend isn't much of a help for me although he's Puerto Rican. So I've started trying to immerse myself completely into the Spanish language by watching Spanish television and listening to popular Latino artists like Selena, Celia Cruz(LOVE HER!), Tego, Don Omar, and whomever I can get my hands on. I'm confused as to what No Quiere Novio means though cuz I've been told different things, but my own interpretation is that the song is about a girl not wanting a man because she's been tricked(played) too many times and she's like "Basta con hombres!" Someone let me know please! Gracias!

What I got from it was that she doesn't want a man/boyfriend just because she wants to do what she wants, when she wants, with no one to tell her otherwise. She wants to dress and look the way she wants, not how a man wants her to look.

Sometimes men make us think that way! LOL

Good luck with your Spanish btw. That is a great way to learn, by music and tv. I love listening to Spanish music now that I fully understand it.

I am not sure if you are familiar with Yuridia, she was on La Academia 4, a show in Mexico but it aired here also, she sings alot of English songs translated to Spanish, like "Listen to your Heart" by Roxette and many, many more. She has a new album out called "Habla corazon" and it has alot of great songs. She speaks English and she seems to be easy to listen to when she is singing Spanish.

You are right - "No quiere novio" means "(She) doesn't want a boyfriend". But according to the lyrics, it's because she just wants to have fun and doesn't want to give explanations to anybody.

I don't think this kind of songs are the best to start learning the language, though. They are fun, but full of slang, spanglish and words written the way they are pronounced in colloquial language (na' instead of "nada", for example). Some parts can be very difficult to understand, even to a native Spanish speaker sometimes, since it's slang from a particular country.

Good luck!
