That last time I asked the Divine to change my world, Hurricane Katrina happened. Now I simply accept what comes along.

Yes, although I don't know if prayer would be the right word. Maybe long for or wish for. Not a day goes by that I don't wish I could relive the "good old times". Sometimes I feel as if I've record player in my mind that causes me to have flashbacks, snapshots of memories.

And then there's the "good old days" of yesteryear, back in time before I lived. Sometimes I wish I lived in the past. Even though I enjoy the technology and freedom we enjoy today, sometimes I feel out of place in this day and age. Sometimes I feel like I live in the wrong decade or even century. I get nostalgia listening to music that was recorded 60 years before I was born, I get nostalgia reading about certain time periods in history.

There never were any good old times. There's nothing new under the sun that the human race has not experienced before. There have always been lots of problems!

The only thing that makes today not good and yesterday wonderful is your personal perspective. People have this tendency to forget the bad and remember the good, so distant memories seem like the golden years when in fact, they were not nearly as golden as you recall, and today isn't as bad as it seems either.

No, because I don't think they were that good. As an out bisexual woman in love with another woman in New York City, I think I'm in a good place and time for myself. I don't want censorship to come back. I don't want women's rights to roll back. I don't want to pay more for flights and long distance phone calls, or not have the Internet!

I wonder if by 'good old times,' you mean the time before you were saved? If so, that's like praying to become a slave to sin again. I can honestly say my life is so much better being freed from sin that I wouldn't go back to it. I wouldn't go back to idolatry for anything.

If by 'good old times' you mean a time when you were happier, or less stressed or more faithful to God, then I'm right there with you. I have prayed for what I call 'renewal' of spirit. And truly such renewals for me only come when I am following Christ the way God wants and intends me to. Without Christ at the center of my heart, much the way the Sun is the center of our solar system, everything is off-kilter for me. Everything is lackluster and drudgery. When I follow Christ the way I'm supposed to, I am blessed with happiness. It isn't something I do as well as I would like, but I am getting better at it, because God is working in me.

I can't tell from your question if you have accepted salvation or not. You know if you have, or not. If you have, read your Bible, starting with the book of Luke and going forward. If your Bible is difficult for you to read, try a different translation until you find one that speaks to your heart.

If you have not accepted salvation, then the Bible may not make a whole lot of sense to you. The Holy Ghost imbues Himself into us when we accept salvation, and it is the Holy Ghost that brings true understanding of the Word of God. If this is the case, then I recommend finding a local church to get involved with. Try out a few of them, and make the decision of which church to attend be like deciding which college to attend. Ask God to lead you to the right flock for you to join. Attend services, listen and pay attention.

I doubt that's the answer you were looking for, but it is my honest experience with this kind of thing. The point in both of the two suggestions above is to have a stronger relationship with Christ. I can honestly say the more I commit myself to Christ, the more joy He blesses me with. I pray you also receive such blessings.

Which old times are you talking about??

May be the times that were good for you ,, werent for another person. That is something very personal. Not everybody have the same mood at same time.
Even, I dont think that past would be better than present.
Do you think the Inquisition was better?? Or Yellow fever that killed million of pple?..Or the darkness in Middle Age??'
If world still exists after 500 years......dont you think that the pple in that time, will think that we were barbarians in XXI century? How do you think they will talk about us??
Everything is relative........according with the time each of us has to live

There never were any "good old times". We need to learn from the past and move on with the future.

I don't know which good old times you mean. I'm sure that whichever ones you refer to were full of difficulties for those people who lived through them.
