Isn't it horrible???? I hate that when it happens.
What I do is take some motrin, for pain and the 'swelling', and place a heating pad on it. I usually end up sleeping with the heating pad on my neck too.
If you wanted to you could get in the shower and let the hot water run over your neck. You could also try some muscle rub. The stuff that doesn't have an odor doesn't work too well. The stuff that works is the stuff that stinks.
Hope you feel better.

Can you go to a walk-in clinic where they will let you make payments? You really should be seen as it could be a lot of things. Advil is an anti-inflamatory so if it worked, it could be a pulled muscle or it could be a gland that is infected. Some pain radiates from where it starts to a different area. I take it you don't have any teeth that could be abcessed? I had neck and jaw pain due to this but no headache. Which doesn't mean anything as we all react differently to such things. Sounds like the pain is managable with medication but it may only get worse if you don't get it diagnosed. I would say that one Doctor visit would cost less than a hospital stay! Good luck.

Ice the painful area, either using a cold pack applied for 10 to 15 minutes, or by massaging the area with an ice cube. I'll warn you ahead of time, the ice massage is uncomfortable, but you only have to do it for as long as it takes to numb the area. After that some light stretching should help to ease the crick. That advice is if there was no impact or fall involved. If you suffered some type of impact to your head or neck that's best checked out by a doctor.

first of all, apply an ice pack for 20-30 minutes several times a day, the sooner the better after an injury like this. Also take ibuprofen or some other anti-inflammatory OTC pain med as directed on the bottle. do some gentle stretching of the area.

Use a roll pillow under your neck when you sleep, so the muscles can really relax.

sometimes a chiropractic adjustment can really help. Or massage. but not if it is really painful...might just need to rest it for a few days.

good luck. I get these often and it's annoying! but they always get better in a week or so.

My suggestion is to visit a chiropractor for quick relief from a crick in the neck.
