The old testament contains embarrassing situations that contradict modern man's society and condones what we find heinous.
Yes it bothers me that society had to live that way, that they felt that being that cruel was helpful to society. However, the fact that it happened cannot be changed no more than my descending from a slaver can be changed - I abhor it, don't believe in it's practice but the past cannot be changed. What we have to do as humans is learn from the grave mistake and make it so it does not happen again.
As for your third question - absolutely nothing is infallible, nothing is perfect.

The entire Bible, which is God's letter to us, is important. From the very first prophecy recorded at Genesis 3:15 to the prophecy's in the book of Revelation---all were written for us to know what will occur in the near future and how our lives will be affected.
Without the Hebrew Scriptures (old testament), the Christian Greek Scriptures (new testament) would not be complete. Many books in the Hebrew Scriptures foretold the birth and death of Jesus, the destruction of Jerusalem and how the earth will soon be transformed into a global paradise, without fear, sickness or death. Psalm 37:9-11
This prophecy that the psalmist was given under inspiration regarding our earthly home, was God's purpose from the beginning and his purpose never goes unfulfilled just as Isaiah 55:10-11 assures us--
"For just as the pouring rain descends, and the snow, from the heavens and does not return to that place, unless it actually saturates the earth and makes it produce and sprout, and seed is actually given to the sower and bread to the eater, so my word that goes forth from my mouth will prove to be. It will not return to me without results, but it will certainly do that in which I have delighted, and it will have certain success in that for which I have sent it."

The only thing that does not apply is the Law of Moses. The New Covenant did away with those laws. We are to obey the Ten Commandments..but not the 613 Mosaic Laws. Everything else in the Old Testament goes hand in hand with the New Testament.

I read the entire bible about 10 years ago and understand your frustration. I could never get a straight answer from anyone in the church. I started reading other religions and discovered a great site with a lot of answers to my questions. All the information including the books is free. some of it is deep thinking.

God does not change His mind. The old testament applied because Jesus had not been born yet.

I cant help yet giggle on the shortcoming of awareness of the holier-than-thou Christians. I come from a Jewish historic past yet have a tendency in the route of the clinical. Jesus Christ himself believed contained in the former testomony. The OT is basically the pillar that allowed the NT to be created. the actual thoughts of the OT were written properly before the age of Christ (regardless of the indisputable fact that probably in a diverse style) regardless of the indisputable fact that i'm unaware of the particular date. It grow to be frequently despatched note of mouth a minimum of till round 1500 BC. and that i'm not particular why particular factors of the OT are considered authentic at the same time as others are skirted. the concept Jesus gives you an user-friendly present (and that is hardly advised to any congregation that i flow to that repentance is a call for) extremely would not look major to me for my area. i ought to say ninety 8% or better (i ought to lean in the route of one hundred% yet that looks extremist of me) of the Christians I have met have self assurance in God in hardship-free words to acheive egocentric targets of heavenly rewards. not the actual purpose to do Gods note....which looks to were lost on account that presently after the time of King David.

Hi. Happy Sabbath. Not all Christians believe The Old Testament was done away with. Jesus' earthly life fulfilled The O. T. prophesies, etc. Hence, we no longer need to make animal sacrifices, etc. Take care.

I agree and to further make the point, it took GOD apparently over 1500 years to write this thing. I think if you spent that long doing something you should make sure its perfect wouldnt you, and it no longer applies, it was kinda pointless to even bother in the first place.

Christians are trying hard to get rid of the Old Testament. In 100 or 200 years, they will base their religion only on the New Testament.
