What should I do to relieve the symptoms?

Thank you all for your responses. I called the donation agency and they said that it was a cold, but it would not affect my donation because there was no associated fever or stomach pain.

You probably have a cold. Do what you normally do when you have a cold. It has nothing whatsoever to do with having given blood.

BUT, colds have an incubation period and you were in that period when you donated. Call the agency through which you gave blood and let them know when and where you donated and that you woke up today with a cold. They will remove your very-well intentioned donation and destroy it. It's better than infecting someone who is already injured or sick with a cold, on top of everything else.

When you're next eligible to donate blood (this one has nothing to do with that cold), donate again. Make a habit of it. It's maybe an hour out of your life every time and it saves lives. Congratulations on making that choice.

This has happened to me before. Many people feel a little under the weather after giving blood, but that typically doesn't include a sore throat. Perhaps you were already becoming sick when you donated. In that case, I would call the red cross, so they would know that they should probably not use the blood you donated, just in case you were actually sick when you gave.

As for relieving the symptoms, I would recommend some chamomile tea and allergy medicine (if you have allergies). If it doesn't get better within a couple of days, you should probably see a doctor.

Hope you feel better!

don't get worked up. Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Donating blood would not have anything to do with these symptoms.
