Refund for what?
registration on trade-in?
warranty cancellation?
money back from the dealership?

Rule of thumb for any kind of refund for cancellations is 6-8 weeks...

You need to specify what the refund is for to get a better answer.

The money on a trade in goes towards the purchase of a new car.

Example:
You go to a dealership and want to buy a $15,000 car.
They are willing to give you $5,000 for your trade in.
The price is now $10,000 plus your old car.

You don't get a refund check. The money goes towards payment of the new car.

If you trade-in a car for another car (at a dealership, I assume) why would you get a refund on the trade-in?

The car itself is traded in for the new vehicle. If you have any money coming back to you, it is used as a down payment for the new car.

I don't think you asked something right.
