An endangered species is a population of an organism (usually a taxonomic species, but may be another ESU), which is at risk of becoming extinct because it is either (a) few in number or (b) threatened by changing environmental or predation parameters. Many countries have laws offering special protection to these species or their habitats: for example, forbidding hunting, restricting land development or creating preserves. Only a few of the many species at risk of extiction actually make it to the lists and obtain legal protection. Many more species become extinct, or potentially will become extinct, without gaining public notice.

An endangered species is any species of animals that are severely declining in numbers to the point of possible extinction. These are usually animals that are declining in numbers due to habitat loss, hunting, encroachment from humans, loss of food source or suitable housing, or like in the case of the bald eagle, poisioning of their food source. This caused high concentrations of toxins to build up in their bodies which made them unable to reproduce. Their egg shells became so thin from the use of the pesticide DDT that they would crush all their own eggs and they could never produce young to add to the population. If an animals group is listed as "threatened or endangered" threatened being the lesser threat, then they are grated state and federal monies in order to try to correct the problem causing their number decline.

When an animal is "Treatened" its numbers or population is in danger of not being able to sustain its self. If the pupulation continues to drop it becomes "Endangered" meaning there are not enough animals etc to reproduce even to keep the population numbers the same. This is a simple answer to a complicated question. Hope it helps out.
