Think of it like this: You initiate a relationship with someone so that this other "someone" can worship and glorify you.
You do this because you need to be worshipped and glorified. It's all about YOU, YOU, YOU.
So then, after a period of time goes by, this other "someone" starts to wonder why you ever started a relationship together, saying one of the two "needs" the relationship more than the other does.
Given that this other person (god) created someone who would worship and glorify him/her, how much more self-consuming, self-possessed and selfish could this god possibly be? I guess thats what it means when it says "god created man in his image......"

A "relationship" is a two-way street. How can anyone possibly have a "meaningful relationship" with something that doesn't come over and share a game or a drink or anything else? That behaves exactly like something that doesn't exist.
This nonsense about a "personal relationship" is one of those neat-sounding sound bytes that has no real meaning.

As long as my finger is attached to my body, it is useful, and I may spend thousands of dollars to preserve it. But if this finger is cut off, it is useless and is thrown away.
What is this soul? The soul is a part of the Supreme Lord, and we have an eternal relationship with the Supreme soul. As we want to protect the hand or the finger because it is a part of the whole body, similarly we try to save ourselves because this is the defending process of the Supreme. The Supreme does not need our relationship, but this is a manifestation of our love toward Him, which is now perverted. The finger and the hand are meant to act in the interests of the whole body; as soon as I want the hand to come here, it comes, and as soon as I want the finger to play on the drum, it plays. This is the natural position. Similarly, we are searching for God, to dovetail our energy in the service of the Supreme, but under the spell of the illusory energy we do not know it. That is our mistake. Now, in human life, we have an opportunity to understand our actual position. If you think that you don not need God, then you are like finger that it has been cut off from the hand.

God does not need you - He desires you - He loves you. That is why He wants a meaningful relationship with you. As for your part, life without God is empty, shallow and meaningless.

I have an imaginary God, and he does not try to initiate anything cause he is too high and mighty for that.
As for church people, they are deeply confused about what God does or does not do, they have no idea what they believe, it all depends on what part of the Bible.

Because he loves you.
That's what's so amazing about it.
We are just dust in the wind.
Yet, he loves us individually and wants to have a relationship with us.
I need him.
