Silly me put the nest in a spot where I cant even look inside unless I turn the cage. It it OK to turn the cage to take a look or will that be a bad idea?

I did the same thing my first time. Don't worry just move slowly near the birds so you don't scare them. Try not to put your hands to close to the nest if possible. Also try not to scrape the cage along whatever it is sitting on, the sound might scare the birds.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Is your nesting textile millet grain????? that is ideal to enable the finches prepare nesting supplies themselves. Dry grass/weeds, etc, will cause them to chuffed. they'll comprehend precisely how deep to make the textile. i imagine your millet develop into too deep and the little ones sank. the dad and mom were flummoxed. because you pick to reproduce them, Google - breeding finches. examine books. The nestling nutrition should be provided to them even as they're breeding. no longer only after hatching the draw close.

You can look, but don't touch!. Just put in extra food, so that the parents aren't stressed about having enough to feed the babies.

Good luck!
