I have no idea what cauliflower ear is, but some people do have complications such as keloids. Which is when a bump forms somewhere around the piercing. I've had 2 cartilage piercings and haven't had any problems.

Doctors cringe at the idea of cartilage piercing because they have seen or read about worst case scenarios. Bleeding or infection in ear cartilage results in scarring and ear deformity. I readily admit to being an old fuddyduddy, but I think cartilage piercing is a ridiculous fashion trend.

Since you will probably ignore this advice eventually, be sure to practice meticulous hygeine. Clean the skin of the ear thoroughly and be sure that the piercing instruments are clean and sterile. Keep the area clean during the healing process.
