Between the age difference and the likelihood of being separated by military life, I would take things slowly and pursue a relationship as friends rather than a couple. He's 26, about the age where a man starts to get serious about relationships, if he isn't a career bachelor. You're 18, an age at which real experience with dating and relationships is still ahead of you. Who knows, you might have a good time with him, but I would be careful not to expect too much. The difference is quite significant, IMO -- I'd like to know why he's pursuing a teenager and not an adult woman his own age. Is he immature for a 26 year old?
Also, a man just back from a war zone might have trouble acclimating to the US again, and might not be the best prospect for you while he's still making the mental and emotional transition. War can mess people up for a while (if not a lifetime).

That's a really big age difference but the military forces you to grow up faster than you should so I guess it's not a huge deal. My fiance is in Iraq for the second time and he came back so much different, with such an aged look in his eyes. I say be careful and take it slow and you can see where it goes from there. I hope he comes home safe and if you go over, I hope you're safe. The military has the best men....maybe I'm a little bias but you know it's true! Be careful with this guy. He may be looking for a bit more commitment than you're ready to put forth.

I think it can work but that is a pretty big age gap at your age. Why not find someone more your own age? Another thing if he is in the service are you going to be willing to waste your youth with long distance relationships? You need to go out have fun and experience some things before you get tied down and are sitting at home and waiting for a man to come home.

At your age, 8 years age difference is too much. I'm trying to figure out why a 26 year old would be interested in an 18 year old, unless you are mature for your age and he is immature for his age. If you were say, 30 and he was 38, then it wouldn't be such a big deal, but I think at your age, 8 years is a big deal, but that's just my opinion.

At 18 you are an "adult", so you can do what you think is right. As far as the age difference, that isn't too much. A lot depends on interests, goals, outlook, etc. Just take it slow, get to know one another.

Later on in years when you have had more experience and fun in life 8 years difference may not be bad, but right now you are at some of the best years of your life. Make the best of them. Don't give them up to someone who may start to act more like your father. Have fun for awhile...Don't tie yourself down.

I know you respect your parents opinions, but there comes a time in an adults life when you need to take those opinions lightly. You go with what your heart tells you. This could be one missed opportunity you will regret for years to come.

First, give him our Respects, from Georgia! God Love Him! Next! Be aware that he may be a changed person, when he does come back from making Our Country Safe.
