Have tried the new Toyota Camy Hybrid 4 door sedan. It does 40 city and 38 highway. You can equipped it to be even more luxurious.
Its a toyota so its reliable, its a hybrid so its realiable.
but if you prefer something else just keep these things in mind if you want to save fuel on any car you set your eyes on.
Get the base engine. Sure the acceleration wont be good and you will struggle a bit when trying to overtake but base engines provides the best fuel economy in most cars.
Get the small wheels. Sure DUBS are great to look at but they are heavy to roll which increase fuel cost. So stick with the regular tires but you can always add the option alloys instead of the ugly steel rims.
Buy car for your size and need. Do you really need than humungous 7 series or that Expedition. Going for small or midsize cars already puts you in fuel economy path.
So go out and drive. Pick the models that catches your eye

If you have enough money get an Audi A4 or S4. If not the Pontiac G6 is a very nice car for the money and gets great gas mileage with a nice size engine. V6 200+ horsepower. You can get the panoramic sunroof which would add some luxury points

Honda is always a good choice. Honda civic or accord, Acura is a little more expensive but a little more luxurious plus they use honda engines which is good. And if you want to save a lot of gas money get a motorcycle can't beat 75 mpg =D If you can you could also buy a diesel and produce biodeisel yourself, if you make it yourself it only costs .50c per gallon.

Take a look at the Mazda 3. It is the best car for the money and it holds its value very well. Great on gas and looks great. Remember you get what you pay for so do your homework before you buy anything. Good luck

Choosing a car is like choosing a girlfriend....
You don't just ask if they look good and put out....
You gotta walk around a car lot and start looking at stickers.
I can't tell you what car to pick just like I can't tell you which girlfriend you should have.
A car is an extension of yourself, and Americans spend an average of what is it 12+ hours a day in their cars.
Goto a car lot, where they preferably have more than one make. And just browse alot. Here is also a weblink to some suggestions
http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/gasmileage/
Good Luck
P.S. Great way to spend less is always to get a 2-door, and consider that some factory installed options are more expensive than getting them done yourself. (radio, car alarm, etc.)

Personally my dream car is a jeep commander. it gets 15 mpg. if you are looking for a very gas friendly car. Try a hybrid like the ford escape hybrid or the toyota prius.

Kia Rios so far are the best ones I've seen. Small, four door, and only about $20 to fill a tank. They come in a variety of colors and are few reliable.
that's why I got one ^_~
