Yes it is you will need it to to run certain programs such as Oracle. I suggest you get service pack 4 as well and install that after service pack 2. Note you have to install service pack 2 before you can install service pack 4 anyway, so you have not waisted your time. Service pack 4 is the last one that Microsoft intend to produce so keep copies on CD in case the download site is not available in a few years time.

If you mean sp2, you betcha. Adds a security center and a lot of support for usb 2.0. You cannot install a decent net framework {games, etc.} without it.

Vicki : yes it's good to use "Windowsupdate 2" because
the software would help you with all "Programs very Important"
like "Compaq" see mine has been done every day when
I'd start up my Computer!

SP2 is essential. You won't get any security fixes without it
