It means that one should understand somethings take time and to be patient. Coz when we impatiently wait for a pot of water to boil it could take forever, same applies when we keep checking on the watch for the time to fly, but thats when the minutes will actually drag. So we should be patient and divert our concentration on other stuff.

I means that if you watch a pot with water in it heat up then it takes forever to boil or at least it seems that way. Have you ever waited for something that seemed never to happen.

Be patient..that's what it means
if you stand there and watch the pot the water won't boil any faster.

if you keep looking at something while waiting, it will seem to take all the longer. For example, when you're waiting for the time to pass during a tedious class, you keep looking at the clock but the time never seems to move.

The statement is meant to teach us a lesson about patience. It is better to do other things rather than just standing there staring at it, waiting for it to happen - do something useful with your time while you wait.
In other words, if you stand around waiting for something to happen - it won't!

ever pay attention to the water til it boils? it takes forever. but when i go off to do the dishes, presto boiling water! i guess it means things seem to take longer when we dwell on them.
