The Catholic Church follows the teaching and practice of the Apostles. In the 20th chapter of the Act of the Apostles, the church in Troas gathered on the first day of the week, Sunday.
Christians believe that Jesus fulfilled the Law of Moses. Therefore Christians are not held to the ceremonial parts of the Mosaic Law concerning of dietary purity and temple worship.
Christians are held to the moral law of God, some of which is expressed in the Ten Commandments.
The first Christians were Jews. They went to temple or synagogue on the Sabbath (Saturday) with fellow Jews.
Then they gathered on the first day of the week, the day on which Jesus rose from the dead (Sunday), with fellow Christians to tell stories of Jesus and share Eucharist. See Acts 20:7.
Later Gentiles joined Christianity. The Apostles, filled with the Holy Spirit, decided that the Gentiles did not have to covert to Judaism. Therefore, they only attended on Sundays and did not have to abide by Jewish dietary laws.
This has been the practice ever since.
With love in Christ.

Sunday is the appointed day for the Lord. We catholics go to mass every sunday to worship, hear the gospel, and give thanks to the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.. We are obliged to present ourselves before God every Sunday. I have known catholics to attend masses not only on sundays but almost everyday.

Sunday (or Saturday in some cases) is the Sabbath day. All Christians are supposed to go to mass on the sabbath.

That outfit sounds suitable -- very classic and fashionable. and that i'm hoping you have fun with your first Mass the next day! God bless you. :) Edit: Pastor artwork, with all due understand, that grew to become into uncalled for. you're actually not Catholic, this question wasn't directed to you, and you come throughout as a snide, callous bully. As a pastor, you're meant to be an occasion of God's love and compassion, and yet it is the way you deal alongside with your Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ. you're bringing shame to the call of our Lord and Savior with comments like the only you only made.

It used to be compulsory as a part of your commitment to Catholicism ( may still be) Most seem to go just because that's what you do. Those who think about or question their Catholic beliefs left years ago!

Have you ever heard that Catholics only go to church three times in their lives. Birth, Wedding, Death. To correct your myth, only devoted christians like me go to church on sunday.
