Take a section of hair use some serum or spritz to help hold the curl, and use a large or small barreled curler depending on what size you want your spiral curls to be, wrapp the hair around the curler no too tight, and making sure the ends are tucked in at the end hold for a few seconds release the tong, and you should have a spiral curl..... this is how i do mine, and it works always.

my hair is naturally curly and i straighten it too. if i want pretty curls and not the ones that come natural, when i get out of the shower, i put a leave in conditioner to maintain the frizz, then i blowdry it using a brush (pulling from roots to bottom). then use a curling iron and before you you wrap your hair around it, spray a little bit of hairspray on each strand. when you wrap your hair around it, make sure that the curling iron is vertical and NOT horizontal, if it is, i promise, you won't get spirals. my hairdresser that i go to does this method and it looks beautiful. if you want looser curls, then once you're done, run your fingers through it gently and tada! beautiful hair

After your shower, put a good smoothing cream or curl activating product while your hair is wet. Defuse your hair with a hair dryer with the diffusing attachment (the head that has little finger looking things sticking out). Use a good, hot curling iron--the metal ones, not a flocked one. And ALWAYS use Aquanet hairspray--I swear by it. It will hold the curls but doesn't make your hair unhealthy, greasy or super stiff. Good luck!
