Know this: with the exception of parental flaws seen in broken families, there can be none greater than parental love. Granted that someones we may consider that the actions of our parents may put us down or sometimes embarrass us, but you can trust that their hearts are for better of your good. It is a common thing that we may not see as how they see simply because we have never been in their shoes or have their level of experience in life.

Treasure your family, especially your parents for without them, there simply be no you. A very simple way to realize this is to envision you having a family yourself and you being your own child. Are you now able to look upon it from a different perspective? Try mentoring the younger generation and you may just get the idea.

Honor your mother and father...and your children too will do likewise when they take upon your footsteps as they learn from you as they grow. Good parents brings upon good offsprings...and I am not taking about money or material gains but true family devotion and values.

Yeah when my Dad was alive (he died 13 months ago, bless him) he was always putting me down....i think he realised I was smarter than him and in some way he used reverse psychology to make himself feel better by making me feel like i was rubbish at stuff. I spoke to a therapists about this about 6 months ago and she agreed that this was probably why he did it. My own Dad had no decent education...I ended up with two degrees so how he could call me thick I'll never know!! Its hard when a parent does this because it from them that we expect all the love and encouragemnt to come from. i definately think what my Dad did affected my adult thinking and my confidence but alas I also know he adored me and I have forgiven him for this behaviour now that he has passed away. Maybe you could sit down and have a chat with your dad about how this makes you feel? Or maybe you dont have that sort of relationship where thats a feesable option....it wasnt with my Dad. I wish you luck, and remember your Daddy loves you...even though it might not always feel that way. x

I'm afraid it happens to a lot of people, me included, but there isn't really any point getting yourself upset about it, i have spent many evenings crying because of my parents, but it isn't going to help, if it is really getting to you and you feel you can, you should sit him down and explain how he makes you feel and see if you can sort it out with him
good luck! x

Some Dads are inclined to do this, it's usually because they think they'll get you motivated by putting you down. Don't worry about it you'll grow up and he'll get over it.

Maybe he feels inferior to you or envious of your youth? Just a couple of theories. At least he is there for you when you need him. Tried talking to him about it? Good Luck. I hope your situation improves.
