Charlestown, WV is about in the middle.

Theres a horse racing track and slots casino there.

A little closer to the DC area are the upscale mountain resorts the Homestead (in VA) and The Greenbriar (in WV).

I've been to the Homestead more than a few times. They have golf, hot springs, spa, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, trap and skeet, movies, bowling, falconry, tennis, swimming, almost every outdoor activity you can think of.

Never been to the Greenbrier, but I hear it is similar.

Both are pretty pricey, so be warned.

The halfway point between Louisville and Washington is somwhere around the towns of Frametown and Glendon in West Virginia. You can use mapquest.com to search for fun/recreation places around that area.
The closest major city to this point is Charleston, West Virginia. You would find something over there for sure. Again try to use mapquest.com .
