TSA told me up to 3 ounces of a liquid, lotion, etc. That's what you can take thru TSA security at U.S. airports. You also cannot take food thru TSA security. Purchase your carry-on lunch and bottled water after security. Use care with that 3 ounces. The container must read 3 ounces or under. If a tube of hand cream has 1 ounce left, but the package says 4 ounces, they will take it from you. That happened to my wife at JFK airport this week. This is sometimes called the Bush Airport Tax Program.

You can carry up to a leter of all liquids and gels. HOWEVER! Each item (i.e. The liquid or the gel) can only be 100mls. Which means you can carry about 10 items of 100mls each.
So for example you can carry: 1x100mls of toothpaste, 1x100 mls of perfum, 1x100 mls of deodorant, 1x100mls of eyedrops, 1x100mls of aftershave, 1x 100mls of hand lotion, 1x100mls of body lotion, 1x100 mls of water, 1x100 mls of face wash, 1x 100mls of toner.
There items must be carried in a clear 20x20cm bag.

For carry-on, remember: 3-1-1
3 ounces or smaller bottle
1 see-through, quart-sized ziptop bag
1 bag per person
You can pack full sized items in your check-in bag as long as it's not overweight.
