Having looked threw some pictures of rottweilers i have noticed that the rottweilers in america look leggier and narrower, In my opinion most of the rottweilers in the u.s Look horid, The average blocky Rottie in the uk put them to shame on the looks front. I know German rotties are supposed to be slightly shorter and blockier and then there is the roman rottweiler which is different again, Anybody have a favourite or care to add?

As a rottie owner myself, I've noticed that asking this question, the question "what is the difference between an american rott verses a german rott" will produce as many answers as poeple as you ask! Including breeders themselves! And then there are people who say the only difference is where they were born.

It used to drive me nuts when I first got her. One person would tell me that German rotts are bigger, someone else would say no, American is bigger cause america always makes things bigger than life, etc.

I just gave up and let people think what they want. It seems everybody is a know-it-all on the subject so just let them think that!

Besides, everyone has the best looking or smartest or cutest dog in their own eyes anyway, right?

Well having been a Rottie owner (or rather he owns me), I have to say that I do see differences right here in the U.S., my Rottie is 140 lbs, kind of leggy, does not have a very square head, BUT hes BIG.
Anyway in answer to you dont worry about the differences they are wonderful dogs if trained properly

Normally dog breeds in the UK have a stronger temperament. It's harder because in America/Canada we have so many vicious dog laws that over the years we had to doll down temperaments from what they were breed to do into socially acceptable pets. In the UK they try to keep the temperaments of what they were breed to do still in contact. This is the same for may other breed like dobes and Shepard's

The only reason you say dat about our rotties is b-cuz u probably have only seen that small selection of them. most rotties here are stalky and either short or tall. not narrow, not leggy. stalky. pics of them in magazines are like top of da line pedigree, otha things like dat. so i hope this helps. also American rotties are hardcore, not little a little pillow sitting princess.
