It's exactly what it sounds like - a separate tuner in the DVD recorder that lets you record one channel while you watch another using the tuner in the TV.

In a DVD recorder, as in any other appliance with a twin tuner, this means that you can watch one channel while recording another one.

For example, you can set your DVD recorder to record BBC1, then turn your unit over to watch ITV1, while the DVD carries on recording BBC1 at the same time.

I hope this helps you shed some light on this issue, and happy viewing!

The best answer I can think of is that VCRs had tuners in them so it could tune itself to the channel you were taping from. Same thing with the DVD recorder, it needs to be able to tune in to what ever it's recording, i.e., a movie or whatever.
