One note that wasn't mentioned is a term called "negative resistance". Brent F is correct, many times I have heard fighters in the gym discussing the fact that water filled bags are "easier on their hands". With regard to the 'Negative Resistance", water instantaneously returns to the posture it was in prior to impact, in doing so it literally applies a pressure back onto the fighter that is an excellent source of building the proprioception that is major in increasing punch accuracy. The "negative force" is also a great source to build muscles that are normally not in a high state of contraction, as is the normal case when one is bringing the arm back after landing a punch. Hope this helped.

The idea is simple - get a punch bag, fill it with water.

You could make a coconut shy and offer prizes to the winners. You can also buy tropical hula girl cut-outs (where you put your head through for photos) on the internet party sites for about £35.

some do..the belief is water has more resistance than sand, so it toughens them up more plus, you can really feel the impact on a water filled bag compared to a stock one..

Water is heavy, so they don't move as much when you punch them

Pro's use it. It doesn't sway as much and more importantly it retains it shape. I think it's easier on your hands.
