it's going to be midnight at my part of the world. i don't think the vet or breeder will be in a very good mood if i ring now. i'm also afraid that his condition might worsen at night... thanks for your advices.

hi sounds like an eye ulcer is his eye weeping as well we have 3 shih zus and they are prone to eye ulcers try and get a vet to see him if he has a eye ulcer and its left it could make im blind is he closing his eye as well that's often a sign an animal has a eye ulcer i don't think hes going blind that is a gradual process and it starts going cloudy and there is a enlarged pupil if you can get him to a vet great if not bathe his eye in a saline soloution diluted salt water until you can get him to a vet if it is an eye ulcer he willbe in extreme pain do not try and wipe the white stuff off his eye just bathe it.

I have a three year old shih tzu with the same problem. I took her to the vet and they said that she has a condition called dry eye which is very common in this breed, where the tears ducts do not work very well. The vet gave her some eye drops called opitmune and eye drops that we have to put in her mouth called pilocarpine. She has been on them now for about four months and her eye is alot better, unfortunatly she has to be on these drops for the rest of her life but it is worth it to save her eye.

so go to the vet as soon as he is open. Shih tzus are prone to eye problems. My one has cost me a fortune in med's for ulcerated eyes. Surely you never rubbed the dog's eyball with a cloth?? OMG that would have been excruciatingly painful and you may well have scratched her cornea. Vet ASAP!!!!!

I'd make an appt. for Monday of next week, and keep an eye on him for now. Does he seem affected by this? Is he walking slowly (to not bump into things), or does he seem to be using his nose to guide him more?
Is he rubbing or digging at his eyes? If he is showing any alarming symptoms, I might try to find an emergency vet, but if he seems otherwise normal, I might wait til Monday.

Best of luck

Get to the vet immediately. He's just a baby and too young to lose his sight if there's a problem. You'd be straight to the doctor's surgery if you had a poorly child.

Phone your vet, even if they are closed there should be an emergency contact for you to ring. If you brought your puppy from a reputable breeder, try phoning them for advice.

if it is spreading fast, he shouldn't be going blind. what you should do is put your hand near his eye like you are going to cover the eye, but don't touch him. if he closes his eye, he can probably see.

Did you just have her groomed? They could of gotten soap in her eye.
