In my 30 years on this planet, I've recently found 1 woman I like that cut my hair (3 visits)...then she moved! Argggg. So, now I'm back to square one! For me, the person doing my hair has to have great hair, good color, etc. I liked the woman I went to because she really took her time cutting and didn't just rush me thru to the next appt. Plus, she suggested different cuts, colors, styles that would look good on me. Then when she was done she showed me some 'tricks' about styling my hair, etc. and she always explained the products she was using and what they would do for me. I have found that I need to stay away from younger just-out-of-beauty-school stylists because they want to texturize too much (which left me with a chunk of hair missing underneath) and they don't take the time to actually look at my face shape and determine what's right for me. Also, a wonderful scalp massage while the conditioner is on is GREAT. Hope that helps. I would suggest sending out flyers listing your services, products you use, and experience. Hope that helps.

Tell me EXACTLY what you plan to do to my hair. Then show me how short or long it'll be, and describe the style in detail. Ask if there's anything I want to change about the plan BEFORE you cut it, rather than afterwards when I might not like it. And talk to me! Listen to what I have to say, and put in your own 2 cents too. If you're friendly and comfortable around clients, they'll want to come back and suggest you to their friends! Hope this helps :)

I'd say to get folks in is to advertise...a picture is worth a thousand words.
Just make yourself attainable!
Smile, hairstylists are still trying to sell themselves initially.
When you do get a customer talk to them, give them advice on how to care for their hair. Give them the impression you care, ask how they take care of their hair, make them leave with more than a style. Give out your card, word of mouth travels fast...tell them what kind of part looks best with their face shape if they wear parts, if they color their hair, tell them what products help them keep it...use your creativity, what would you want from a stylist...ask them how they like things as it's going to make sure they are satisfied, I know when I'm just sitting in the chair looking at the mirror with no communication going on it's because I don't like what's going on.

each so often. [x like, on each occasion i walk right into a hair salon, which contain large Cuts or some form of walk-in place, i continually experience slightly uncomfortable. i prefer to shrink my hair and charm it the way i desire and all. i'm no longer attempting to sound racist or impolite with this next sentence, yet i think of that distant places people - asians, russians, ukrainians; do no longer in all probability have stable hairstyling innovations. like, maximum people who artwork at walk-in hair salons in basic terms bypass to a hair health center for a pair of months, whilst they learn how to shrink hair and stuff, and then they bypass and get a job someplace. yet they do no longer additionally be attentive to a thank you to form and shrink hair. 0_o I even have previous journey as information. yet now, my mom is taking me to a expert hairstylist, man or woman who works in a rented workplace area, and the only people who artwork there are the hairstylist and her significant different. the shrink is like, $50, and that i additionally offered some hairspray stuff the final time i went. [x i'm no longer attempting to sound racist, yet i think of that i could in basic terms have faith hairstylists who relatively have HAD journey working in a genuine salon. no longer somebody who pretends to be who they're. /: wish this helped. <3

If you're willing to keep up with all the information to keep people from taking advantage of you, offer everyone's first styling session for free. If they like your work, they'll probably come back. If they don't, they probably won't, but maybe they'll tell others about your first-time-free offer.
