Definitely! We buy ours at a large book store with a big selection like Border's or Barnes and Noble. That way we can browse before we buy. We always look for street guides or maps which are especially helpful. Look to see if modes of transportation are covered. This has saved us lots of money when we've used public transportation instead of pricey taxi service. We used to be wary but followed guide book recommendations on safety, efficiency and cost. Next we look to see if there are points of interest described. Prices for attractions are usually listed so we know what we're getting into before we arrive. Restaurants are usually described with ratings and price guides as well. Just don't forget to bring your travel book with you so you can refer to it often like we do.
