She's looking for the best pieces first. She can always hope that you may give her something else in the meantime. Even as people, sometimes we "don't know what we want" when the pantry is full.

just a guess, but my reckoning is that the food sticks to the bowl and Carnot be removed by the tongue so it uses its front teeth to scrape it away , there for leaving no remnant behind

sometimes if you have a mix of dog food in a dog's bowl they will search out the stuff they like.. we have a jack and its mixed food in her bowl.. she will take out all the little nuggets that she dont like and eat the stuff she likes..foxi

lol my dogs do that also. i think they are counting every morsel in their bowl. eventually they will try and "hide" it so the other dog cant eat it.
