Any lotion will work. You do not need to go out and buy expensive lotions. Just keep them moist all the time. you can try vaseline on them before you go to bed.

You could buy glycerin from the pharmacy. Dilute it some what and rub it on hands. It doesn't feel great but it works. There is a lotion called corn huskers that also works great but does not feel the greatest. I use these things at night and keep ones that dry and feel better on me during the day. Use them EVERY time you wash your hands.
There are many hand lotions out there that feel better and work well. Try buying sample sizes until you find one that works for your skin.

I have the same problem. I found by accident using purell hand santaizer with aloe after each wash really helps. It has aloe and glycerine that keeps my skin from drying out too much.
Of cousre when I have flare up I love the nevia cream (not the lotion) the cream in short round containor. I keep a small one in my purse.

I have the same problem. Almost every year about this time, my hands crack and the pain is awful.
I've started on a hand lotion "regiment", you could say. I purchased Lubriderm lotion with shea and cocoa butters (after my grandmother's continuous praise of shea and cocoa butter lotions).
It's really working. I apply it just as my stands start getting noticeably dry, and while they sometimes still get dry, they haven't cracked since I started.

Same with me ! I've been using a 10% cortisone cream OTC along with "Palmer's cocoa butter" cream, not lotion, and that's working very well. This was the treatment given to the staff of the ER where I work in,by a passing Dermatologist. Take care. SW RNP

Avon has a lotion called "Moisture Therapy" that I use all through the winter. If I didn't I'd keep extremely dry hands in the winter. It works really well.

petrolatum jelly is not a lotion but use it for the moment at night when you sleep, it moisturizes fast. you can use glycerin cream at day time. use any lotion specificied for "extra dry skin" in the label. nivea and dove products are good moisturizers. depends on which will work on you. :-) you can try olay products too. drink more and more water. it will help you hydrate from within. put on lotion once in a while during the day.

I am a Nurse Aid, and the same happens to me from time to time.
Try putting bag balm on your hands before you go to bed(I put rubber gloves on too, to keep everything from getting messy!), also Crack cream works well, and if you like the smell of cloves it is wonderful. Both can be found a WalMart.

I can sympathize with you. I've found that rubbing mentholatum on my knuckels at night works really well. I have also used baby oil gel after washing my hands at home--if its rubbed in well it does not leave hands to oily. At work, in a pinch, I have used carmex on the really bad places and it works too.
