Hi. IMO only you can decide which method to use to quit smoking. I used patches, but they don't work on their own. You need will power, lots of support and encouragement, and lots to do when you get a craving. My house was the cleanest in our street for about a month. Change routines around your normal smoking times, like washing up straight away after a meal, sitting in a room you didn't smoke in for your cuppa etc. Good luck with it. Have a positive attitude, and a goal - - like a holiday, or a new wardrobe.

I would not go for nicotine patches. you smoke so little it is likely you will get mote nicotine thorough the patches than through your 5 cigarettes.
Five is relatively simple to quit, not much nicotine and other addictive substances in your body. at the end it is a matter of will power. I am sure you have enough to quit five a day!
Maybe wait to catch a cold or something, then quit for the time you ares ill, and just continue on and you have quited.
Focus on something else, you have the will power to stop, do not doubt yourself.

I would suggest that you do have some will power to only smoke the amount you do of a day.
I have had the nasty habit too and have been advised recently to try and substitute the cigs with a hand-full of nuts and raisins and a glass of water. For some reason the water fills you up, and raisins and nuts are a sweet treat, you soon loose the need or habit of wanting a cig and the nuts and raisins and water are a healthy option too. It is working for me at 20 a day smoker, cant hurt to try. good luck

I cant see the point in you using patches, nicotine is out of your system in 48 hours, less time if you only smoke 5 a day.
You wouldnt have a craving problem like most smokers who are giving up,it should be really easy.

Grade 3 patches should work for you. If they cause you skin irritability, simply apply lotion on the spot where you're gonna put the patch. Rub the lotion in and let the skin absorb it before you put the patch on so that it doesn't fall off.

You still need willpower with the patch or gum! I know lots of ppl who have smoked on the patch. Get it in your head that it's bad for you..you'll quit for good when you're ready!

Patches are grades 1 to 3, biggest to smallest. Sounds like you could try a grade 3 small pack due to your low ciggy consumption. (I wanted to write f&g consumption but the US thought *** police decided I was being homophobic, sigh)
