After a couple of weeks of starving they would.

An aetheist may not believe in a religion in a normal sense, because he or she may say it is not relevant. But deep in his heart he knows that he is what he is because of Almighty a creator, of which he knows but cannot comprehend.
So yes the atheist will cry and seek help from his god and repent his wrongs

You never know exactly what you'll do when faced with such a desperate situation however I can't imagine that I would suddenly start believing in the Christian God anymore than a stranded Christian would suddenly start believing in my Wiccan Gods and Goddesses.

i dont think that a desperate situation that requires logic and rational thinking in a life or death situation is going to be the time that people call on a God they do not believe in
they would be too busy trying to swim , or look for help , or reserve energy , or plan ahead
you cant just believe in God like the flick of a switch

It would be pretty hard to believe in God if I was stuck in the middle of the sea.

I am sure many who were lost at sea did not return to tell us that god did not answer their prayers.

It doen't matter when your time is up, its up.
Even if you believe or dont believe, when your destiny call comes, you have to go. Other than that, it may not be your time, and you may have to learn something about your self.

There is no such thing as god...why would I start believing in fairy tales? Unless I'd had too much seawater and was hallucinating that I thought I saw Jesus or the Flying Spaghetti Monster. But if I were rational, no. Of course not.

Which God?
Would you pray to Neptune? Poseidon? Aigaios? Amphitrite? Galane? Ãgir? Atl? LlÅ·r? Vaitakere? Proteus?
There are hundreds of ocean and water gods alone--would you pray to all of them?
Perhaps you could ask them to send you a mermaid to offer assistance.
If you pray to the WRONG one, will the real one get angry and jealous?

If God doesn't heal amputees, God doesn't rescue stranded boaters. I'd pray to Poseidon. If anyone would help, it would be him.

No, I would not waste my time asking imaginary entities to help me. I would try to find out where I was. I would then start working on a plan for saving myself.
