it means that the animals were reared without the routine use of antibiotics and without the use of growth hormones. Also, at all levels, organic food is produced without the use of genetically modified organism (from wikipedia, link below).

therefore, it does not mean that the animal had a cruelty free life although it sometimes does. you need to check the food labelling. they all get killed at the end of it, it depends on your morals what you eat (or what you think is healthiest).

same goes for eggs etc, organic does not automatically equate to cruelty free x

It means that the animal that it once was, was fed nothing that was not organic....like organic corn, organic hay, etc. and it was not pumped full of chemicals (growth hormones) to make it grow faster or fatter!
