I don't care about all the horror stories because most of them are because most are the owners fault. I have researched both of them. I live in Georgia in an apartment. I can exercise both dogs daily for about 1-2 hours.

This my friend is a matter of opinion only I prefer pit bulls both dogs require about the same amount of work the real difference there is size id go with the pit bull because of the apartment a doberman would be like adding another person to your space the pit bull is about half the size and packs the same punch as a dobie and then some either choice is good but if you plan on crate training "which i highly recommend" the bulls cage takes up less space......good luck on your pick PS this is for den pit bulls bond very well with their owners id dare anyone out there that says pit bulls don't make good guards for a family to come in my house when you shouldn't be there or even try to harm one of my children while they are watching life will be cut short for this person as for smart my you can not make a statement that the dobie is smarter and you you really need to learn a breed before you try to tell someone else what they were bred for they were not bred to fight wild pigs you are mixing hog catching with dog fighting they were bred to fight dogs and they can easily be socialized with other dogs

It depends what you value most, pitbulls are a better looking dog and perhaps a better companion, You can get them in all sorts of colours and markings and can find yourself a real stunner out there where as dobermans all look the same, On the other hand though the doberman has one thing going for it that the pitbull hasnt and that is his guard dog capabilities( i respect a dog that is going to back people the **** up). If you research pitbulls some people will tell you they are great guards other say not, To be honest its down to the parents because pitbulls can differ so much, if you do go for a pit try and get a athletic looking one with a good height and not one of those fat short blue turds that breeders have bred into no good lumps of lard. If you are after a guard dog, doberman bitches are supposed to be even better at guarding than the males, ( ah baby girl lol). Anyways hope that helps you

This is really a personal preference. My daughter has the pits and I have the Dobermans and they are both good dogs. The Dobermans are very loyal, devoted to their owners and very affectionate. They too are very intelligent, fearless and assertive. I know you would love the breed, but this is actually your own choice. Good luck and I hope you find the one you're looking for.

Pit bulls need less space and exercise because the are smaller and less active, but
Dobermen are easier to train ad are more sociable(and much better with additions to a family group eg babies and kids)
You choose.
Personally I would go for the Doberman as they are much more cuddly dogs .
And You are exactly right about problems with the dogs being mostly the owners fault for not training them and keeping up their conditioning;BUT you have to remember what they were bred for, Pit bulls were bred for fighting wild pigs, so this will always crop up in their temperament. And Dobermen were bred for guarding and going in to weapons combat with their masters, so they are much more likely to bond with and protect their human pack than Pit bulls ever will.

Either way, love them, train them , and never show fear is a good way to start.

I live in Ga too. And you will be hard pressed to find any apartment complex that will let you have any one of them. If you have a choice I would say the dobie. They are highly intelligent. and not a suborn as the pit. I love the pits too but with both you have to be able to give time and training. I have two rotts and the are a hand full just being in a house.

I also live in an apartment and I have a 5 year old male pit bull named Max. We go outside on the leash. I have owned him since he was 2 weeks old. I agree with you on the horror stories regarding pit. Max is loving, funny, protective, spoiled, all wrapped up in one dog. To me there is nothing cuter than a pit bull puppy.

I personally would recomend a doberman they are intelligent and a fabulous breed and unlike pitbulls dont make you look like you are trying to prove something. Pitbulls seem to be like a fashion accessorie for the hardnut like 'look at me I am so tough I have a pitbull I am so hard'. Where dobermans you dont see so often and far more likely to protect you and make excellent guard dogs which is what they were orignally breed for.
As for the horror storys the pitbull is breed to fight the doberman was breed to guard and defend.
I wont tell you what to have you must make that choice but personally I would go for a doberman they are far more impressive and it doesnt look like you are following the crowd.

You know not only owner's fault,if there were only five horror "stories" I could believe you but there are much more then five well let's pass this, you should buy a doberman because they are loyal to their owner, but hard to train. You should definitely buy a doberman.

I would get a pit. I think this would fit your apartment situation better. A doberman is a working breed and would be better suited with a fenced in yard so it could run and exercise more.

yes most are owners fault,,,, the owners of the ill-tempered dogs that are being bred..... beware,, temperament IS a genetic trait... some times you just cannot "love" a dog and have him turn out even tempered... so, your question.... Doberman,, from a reputable breeder, one which will let you see both parents, one that has done all the appropriate health testing on both breeding dogs, and their parents and their parents... etc.. you know what i mean
