If you can recognize the destructive patterns and the denial... you're already doing pretty good.

It's a very rare human who doesn't need the help of others to change themselves and improve their lives. Trust those who truly care about you, and ask them to help you in bettering yourself.

You can recognize any pattern not wanted in society by the reaction of people around you. Personal integrity is the issue with denial. Our self images are so precious to us that we guard those self images even if they are not exactly true. When we do an action that contradicts our concept of ourselves, we deny we did it. It is too uncomfortable to admit what our self image says we would never do. The truth is that we are both good and bad. Everyone. To be a real and genuine person who is finished with facades and BS, we have to learn to accept ourselves just the way we are, with all the bumps and bruises. Humility is not some holy church going hocus pocus. Humility is merely honesty about oneself and refusing to pretend otherwise. That is what a real person is. Genuine. And once it is no more important to compare ourselves with others, you will find that others will respond positively to you. You will be able to look at someone else's work and appreciate it without any feeling of being threatened or competitive.

You could get a Spiritual Director. He does not have to be your pastor or priest if you are a Catholic. A Spiritual Director is someone who is more mature than you in the faith. He should also be someone you can respect and confide with. Your second question is not very clear to me. Is it denial of God or his teachings? Again, your Spiritual Director can help you there.
Have a blessed day
