nothing wrong with it. what's the point of getting on your high horse like some in here, what does that solve. best to not care less about anything. i too have strong views as do we all but i can't be bothered to mention them and just tend to shrug my shoulders. for example it's officially our fault about global warming. so what.

No one can fix the whole world by themselves. Not ghandi, not Lincoln, not anyone else. If Lincoln had not been born, somebody else with similar views would have been there instead. These people are born out of their society and were in the right place at right time (just as the bad guys like hitler). Further, all of them had help.
Point being is that you can not immediatly fix the world by yourself; but by being informed about the things that matter to you. Pursue the things that interest so that when you find yourself in a position to effect change, you can do so responsibly.
Look at the people at Y/A. Both atheists and spiritualists want to change the world by changing the other's views, yet they both go misquoting the Bible and evolutioonary theory. They want to effect the world but are generally ill preparred. In frustratin they lash out at each other, I think.
We are taught that helping others is a good thing, maybe your apathy springs from a sense of powerlessness -- that in turn is might be due to the idea that your 'supposed' to have some miraculous ability. Most of us don't at any given time. Most heroic acts are done by people who were not trying to be heroes but held the appropriate moral values. etc.
Hope this helps.

The thing to worry about it helping somebody when the time arises and noticing when that time arises.
If you are trying to helps somebody there is no way you can help then you are a fool. Jumping into shark invested water to save someone from a shark attack is silly because you'll just be eaten too. When the time is right you pull them out. If the time never arises then you didn't stand a chance. The same goes in everything else.
Now if you see the opportunity and do not act, then you are apathetic, selfish or just evil.

If you're worried about your condition, you aren't apathetic. Apathetic means you don't care one way or the other. You care, but you're aware that you're powerless, and you care about what people think of you so you stay quiet about your views. That doesn't mean you don't have a view. Apathy means you don't have a viewpoint and don't care.
If you want to make a difference somewhere, find an issue you care about (children, education, the environment, the elderly etc.) and do volunteer work with an organization that is dealing with their problems.
Action is better than inaction.

There's lots of things you can do. Go volunteer at a homeless shelter, donate to charities, become a mentor for a child. There's always something you can do and you don't have to travel across the planet to do so. You have to change yourself. No one can do that for you. All you can do is resolve to change at least one thing about yourself a day. Start small and then work your way up. It can be done, you just have to want to change.

You CAN make a difference, in a split second - just try helping someone else in a geniune way and see the smile you receive. You have just made a positive difference in the world. You know, it might even catch on... :-)

Boy howdy. Somebody needs to hear the STARFISH STORY.
So a woman is walking along the beach and notices that tons of starfish have washed ashore. They can't get back into the water, and are starting to dry up and die, by the thousands. She likes starfish, and feels bad, but tells herself, "There's too many to help, and I'm just one person."
As the woman continues walking along the water's edge, past miles of stranded starfish, a man standing near the sea comes into view. He keeps bending down, picking up starfish, and throwing them back into the water, like Frisbees.
She keeps walking til she's standing beside him and asks, "What are you doing? Don't you realize that there are too many of them dying for you to ever make a difference?"
The man pulls his arm back and throws the starfish he's holding back into its familiar territory, the ocean. Then he turns to the woman and smiles. "I just made a difference for THAT one, ma'am."
