"Cold sores" are actually a form of herpes.Don't be scared though, millions have it,and it's NOT at all uncommon.

Various ointments are available to help clear it up.

Also note, there is no "cure" for any strain of herpes.

sores around the mouth can be caused from several different bugs .they get the lump sum name of cold sores because they usually appear during a cold when your immune system is low,it in fact could be a number of things like impetigo,or herpes or staph .the way i tell if it,s a herpes out break is,before i see anything on the skin i feel a itchy burning sensation then a red spot appears that eventually turns into a blister. at this point i zap it with camphor. or rubbing alcohol.I keep dabbing it till it dies and drys up.(I don't recommend this to you I'm just telling you what i do.cause Ive dealt with it for forty years.)oh and another thing about herpes is it comes back in the same place each time.I deal with it so aggressively in the beginning cause if i don't it spreads.I'm usually able to keep it under control.also Ive found if i keep my immune system built up during the winter i can keep the outbreak from happening.other mouth sores can usually be taken care of with over the counter things like neosporin or triple antibiotic salve.good luck and if it spreads you really should see your doctor.

The next time you feel that burning sensation just before the sore comes out...get an ice cube and wrap it in a kitchen towel and rub it over the tingly part of your lip. This will stop it from breaking out into a sore. Do it for as long and as often as you feel the tingle...hold it on the spot as long as you can. Ice might help a bit with this outbreak too to soothe it anyway. It sounds like this one has busted out all over. Hope you feel better soon.

I REALLY wanted you to know that you can EASILY never have to deal with another horrible, awful, nasty cold-sore for the rest of your life!!

I got them every winter my whole life until 3 years ago (I'm 36 now) and they were the BANE of my existence...the whole process took weeks to heal and would leave a scar for at least 2 months sometimes!

I was reading a message board on www.curezone.org and discovered the PERFECT remedy for both healing them and preventing them completely:
OLIVE LEAF EXTRACT
http://curezone.com/foods/oliveleaf.html...

So, I buy the liquid tincture by "HerbPharm" and it has not failed me ONCE...Whenever I'm feeling drained, tired, stressed, or get that tingly feeling on my lip, I just load up on this stuff.

This is the one I buy: http://www.myvitanet.com/olleafex1ozh.ht...

You can also get Olive Leaf at Whole Foods Market, and other natural food stores.

Very cheap.

The first time I tried it, I was actually halfway into a major eruption and I drank a bunch of the extract in some water.
AS I WAS DRINKING the stuff down, I could feel the swelling on my lip shrinking...I was in such shock--I ran to the mirror--it was shrinking before my eyes and within ten minutes my lip had returned to NORMAL...I began kissing the bottle of Olive Leaf...yeah, I really did!!

I had tried everything in the past...I can't begin to tell you the WARS I had with these evil sores!

Well, I can finally say: I WON !!!

Get some Carmex and keep it on hand at all times. It's only like about 1.19 in the lip balm section. If you apply that when you "feel" it coming on, it won't be as bad or may not break out at all. It heals them up nicely too.

You could use Ora-Jell for cold sores! Try not to pick at it! you can also use warm salted water compresses or show the pharmacist he might have something else for you!
