I think they only like to follow some of the Laws! But from what I gather, they need the OT to back up the christian claim of Jesus being the messiah! So if it's now ok to eat pig, then why is it still not right to tattoo our bodies!? Makes you wonder, eh!?

"How come Christians say jesus implemented a new covenant and the old testament doesn't matter, but use the old testament to back up their statements against witchcraft? "
I believe that when a Christian says the Old Testament doesn't matter, they are revealing that they were not well taught about what it really is. The Old Testament, Paul says, is there to remind us that we are all sinners, and we need the grace of God in order to be declared righteous.
So the Laws of Moses in the Old Testament, show us that it is impossible to please God by keeping the Law, because if we were to keep the Law, we would have to keep the whole Law. What those that tried to do that found out was that it was impossible to keep.
It's not as if those things aren't sins any more, it's just that we are sinners, quite imperfect, and need Jesus to cover us from the wrath of God, as the Passover lamb was needed to keep the angel of Death from killing the firstborn in Egypt.
So all those things are still condemned. It's just that we look to Jesus to provide us with the sacrifice that was proper, not the ones offered up by the Law.
As far as witchcraft goes, the Bible says- witchcraft is as the sin of rebellion. If that's what you do then I would implore you to stop. BUT it doesn't mean that you are not or cannot be saved, it's just that I know Gode, and He does not want His children to practice witchcraft. I would then- if I thought that you were a Christian- tell you to weigh what I said on God's Spirit. And then I would let it go.

Huh? Where do you get the idea that Christians think the Old Testament doesn't matter?
The Old Testament does matter, and matters very deeply. One reason why is that it provides the theological framework for the revelations of Christ that came later.
By the way, the New Testament also condemns witchcraft. It also condemns homosexuality, just like the Old Testament does.
These are just two of many things on which the New Testament has teachings that back up and reaffirm the teachings of the Old.

The Old Testament does matter and anyone who tells you it doesn't is wrong. The New Testament teaches against witchcraft also. I tend to try and think a little more logically than just responding with the "you don't have to understand the Bible, just do what it says" mentality. So....about the pork thing.....God knew...(because he's God..LOL) in OT days that people did not have the technology or the sense....to clean, cook, and preserve pork properly so He forbid them to eat it. The dietary laws of the OT are logical for their time...but by the time peter had his vision and God told him it was ok to eat pork things had improved....make sense doesn't it? Now about the witchcraft thing.....I think the NT does teach against its practices....for several reasons. God doesn't want us worshiping anybody or anything but Him. The way He looks at it is that He gave us everything we truly need, so why would we resort to witchcraft. This is all off the top of my head but I think the Bible backs up what I am saying. My personal thoughts on witchcraft is that the Bible teaches that things like divination and sorcery are real but it also teaches that they are not to be messed with. At best witchcraft, tarot, psychic readings and sorcery is a joke, at worst tools that Satan uses to distract people from following God. Satan is not against you being a good person, or being at peace with the world. He is against you believing Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I want you to know I don't condemn you, I dabbled in witchcraft and the occult before becoming a Jesus Freak! Peace man!

The Old Covenant prophesied the New Covenant. Each are connected, some things were fulfilled in the Old Testament and are not necessary for salvation.
It is like learning to ride a bike with training wheels, eventually you simply do not need those training devises any longer, yet you still need the wheels, the handle bars, and pedals! The training wheels were relevant at the time however!

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." II Timothy 16-17
I think possibly you may be confusing the Old Law and the Old Testament. The Old Testament contains the Old Law but is much, much more. Hope this helps, go in peace.

Especially what Jesus said in the New Testament about the old is valid. In Matthew, Jesus said:
17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
The New King James Version. 1996, c1982 . Thomas Nelson: Nashville
As you can see, the Old Testament is referred to in whole about the Law and the Prophets. Therefore, the old is valid in the new.
God Bless You :)

False, Jesus told us to watch out for false teachers and soothsayers(witches). Also Jesus said he did not come to change the laws but to give understanding to the laws and to further enhance them. Witchcraft is of the Devil, there are no good witches, for the bible talks of all as being bad. Read Matthew through John and then read Genesis thorught levitcus it will put it through more of a prospective of what Jesus was talking about.

That seems logical to me; but then, there is often very little that is logical in the practice of religion for some individuals. When all is said and done, they simply inflict their ideas of right and wrong on others (or at least, attempt to), and selectively use whatever they need to rationalize their thinking.

EDIT - EDIT - EDIT there is not any distinction. The scriptures teach us, God, is the God of each technology. Of the day previous, on the instant and continuously. What did Jesus, God's son say ? "i did no longer come to break the regulation, yet to fulfill it". The regulation has no longer replace, the replace is Jesus Christ and the Mercy he represents. accountable, yet FORGIVEN. it relatively is the version between "previous and "new Ephesians 2:8 For via grace you have been saved by faith. And it relatively is not any longer your very own doing; it relatively is the present of God, Jesus began an prolonged scientific care of what became into incorrect with the Pharisees' faith with right here words: "The Scribes and Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses; for this reason, all that they permit you be attentive to, do and word, yet do no longer in accordance to their deeds; for they say issues and don't do them." (Matthew 23:2,3). the superb option away, we see something appreciably incorrect right here. whilst Jesus referred to the Pharisees having sat themselves down "in the chair of Moses", He became into in basic terms saying that whilst they teach you from the writings of Moses, hear to and obey those training. in basic terms simply by fact it relatively is a rascal who's conversing the fact would not propose this is an excuse to reject the fact. *** for the duration of His lifetime, Jesus taught His disciples to obey the regulation of Moses. This became into God's covenant with them. quickly might come a sparkling covenant that would replace the 1st one. we are actually under the covenant of Christ (Hebrews 8:6-13; 9:15-18; Galatians 3:23-27; 5:a million-6). Salvation by humble repentance, offered via grace, which includes Mercy, is God's covenant together with his Son, Jesus is the guy who's sitting upon the "Mercy Seat" , His covenant, 'no longer of our doing, or our works, or our deeds, or our sacrifices, yet for the respect of God - we are are portion of God's Glory. sure.. What we do in God's will, we do for our very own success. This, is the comparable well-known message in the previous and New attempt's.
