What people said about being under a couple layers of skin is correct. Also, the pigment molecules are also too big to be carried away by the blood. They just tend to migrate over time, which is why tattoos can blur. Laser removal works by breaking down the molecules into small enough bits so the blood can take it away.

no you can not. lighter ink tones will not cover darker colors or vice versa. you are just adding pigment and pigment, and turning the tissue into scar tissue, so the tattoo will end up being even more raised and further on, harder to remove. lotions on the web DO NOT WORK, and are skin lighteners, so all they do is bleach the skin. from experience, the best bet is laser tattoo removal. its pricey and painful. it can cost anywhere around $50 per square inch. clinics do offer forms of making the procedure more comfortable, but at an added cost, and might not be worth it. i had two tattoos removed that i did not use any form of pain relieve on, and yes it hurt, but the ice prior was fine. the tattoos were small in size, so the pain was very short in time. it kind of feels like a hot rubber band snapping on your skin over and over. the easiest colors to remove are black and red. any other type of colors are harder and might take more treatments. i underwent 14 treatments and finally i am at a point i am happy with the results enough not to continue.

Close answers for some...tattoo needles insert ink to the level of the dermis. The epidermis renews regularly - about every thirty days and longer as we age.
Sun does fade tattoos but the actual ink molecules will still remain.

Because the ink is put deep into the skin. the skin that does not "shed". But is not uncommon for the tattoo to fade really light. But that is because the needle did not go deep enough.

The layer that is shed off is called the epidermis. The tattoo is placed in the dermis. The dermis is the level below your epidermis level that does not come off or shed. That's why it doesn't come off. :) The tattoo is in your skin 1/16th of an inch deep/

Toattoo ink is actually absorbed into the lower layer of our skin which doesn't need renewing and doesn't flake off.
Hope this helps

Yeah, whoever thinks having tattoos will limit your employment abilities is sadly mistaken. I made over 6 figures last year. Anyways to answer you question, the tat is not on the top layer of skin.

I know my spelling is atrocious. But you shed you "epidermis". The tattoo is in the "indodermis" layer which does not flake off.
