I broke my back tooth on a olive stone and had the tooth removed. I will need to have a replacement tooth fitted and want to know how long I need to wait before I start this procedure. I'm 50 years old (if that makes any difference!)

If it is a back tooth about 8-12 wks for the bones to completely heal so a prosthesis will fit accurately. If in the front you may want to graft bone there before it completely heal, before 2 wks out, so that the shape of your gum ridge will look more natural w/ a replacement, either a bridge, and esp. for an implant.

Your dentist must make this decision. But off the top of my head I'd say 6 weeks, giving the tissue of the gum time to heal from the extraction and making sure you are free from infection.

The dentist usually makes the mold when the tooth is extracted.
